Equatorial Guinea
The Knights, Elnora’s family, have determined that this Clan had its start in Coastal West Africa; Equatorial New Guinea to be exact. The Knights worked with Ancestry.com to determine genetically, using DNA testing, the African origins of “Daddy Jim” and therefore the African origins of Elnora’s Children. The picture below is of the Biafrans of Equatorial Guinea.
The Knight Family Historian, Susie Johnson, shared with me that Willett Knight, Elnora’s nephew, her brother’s child was used for the DNA sample. Willett (Bubba) was used because he was in a line of direct male descendants of Daddy Jim: Frye (son), Eddie (grand son), Willie (great grand son) and Willett (great, great, grand son) and provided the truest read.
Equatorial Guinea is a small country on the west coast of Africa which struck oil in 1995, literally. It is made up of a mainland territory called Rio Muni, and five islands including Bioko, where the capital Malabo is located.
Since the mid 1990s the former Spanish colony has become one of sub-Sahara’s biggest oil producers but a large proportion of the population still lives in poverty. Rights’ organizations have described the two post-independence leaders as among the worst abusers of human rights in Africa.
