Cyler Jefferson Ponder’s Homegoing

Memorial Service

Cyler Jefferson Ponder (Jeff), March 22, 1942 – August 21, 2014 has made his transition home, taking his place amongst his ancestors who transitioned before him.  His Father Capus and Mother Elnora, we bid thee wrap him in your spiritual arms. His Brothers Willie, Chuck, Ben, Wilbert and his Sister Ethel may they shepherd him into the light.

Jeff was born in Sylvania, GA and spent his younger years in Daytona Beach and West Palm Beach FL; his chief occupation during those days was that of Chief Cook for S&S Cafeteria. For the majority of his adult life Jeff lived and raised his family in New Orleans, LA. The early years in New Orleans Jeff partnered with his brother Chuck to operate a roofing company. He eventually settled into a profession of Bus Owner/Driver.

Of Elnora’s nine boys Jeff was the one most frequently referred to as handsome; he was too but competent and debonair as well.  He was a solid man that was able to stand on his own for all of the time I have known him.

When I was a young teenager I got chance to spend time with Jeff and Chuck in New Orleans roofing.  I remember it being hard work with good pay; it was a fun summer

Farewell Jeff, you will live in our hearts forever!

Jeff is survived by his current Wife Donna, and two former wives Ossie and Barbara; his children James, Val jean, Norman Trelaine Kennedy, Arthur Ray, Danielle, Felecia, Melissa, Cruise, Phillip, Kimberly, Franklin and Necole. His grandchildren, Damon, Jr., Daniel, James and Savon. His sisters and brothers Catherine, Jeff (Donna), Betty (Marvin), Robert, Wilbert, Aleem (Patricia), Jimmie, Mary, Frances (Curtis), Dave (Sharon), Gregory (Shirley) and Earnestine and a host of nieces and nephews.
