Benjamin Ponder’s Homegoing

Memorial Service

Benjamin Ponder (Ben)  the Lion of the Ponder Family has made his transition home. Ben, born April 12, 1940 passed on January 23, 2009, taking his place amongst his family who has gone before him.  His Father Capers and Mother Elnora, we bid thee wrap him in your spiritual arms. His Brothers Willie, Chuck and his Sister Ethel may they shepherd him into the light.

Ben, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle journeyed home today and we miss him terribly already. When it came to family, Ben not only talked the talk but he also walked the walk. He was the one person that was always there for you; distance, situation didn’t matter if you were in need he would be there to provide support.

I won’t attempt to glorify my Brother’s existence but only note three things; his love for God and family, his tremendous work ethic and  his abundant energy. His compassion and commitment to God and family was unmatched and made him very special to our family and his community.

Ben was memorialized at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church:

515 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd.

Daytona Beach, FL 32114-3150

It is God who grows us in our mother’s womb. Then He bring us out in the world where we grow as young men and women. Then we mature as young men firm and strong. Then we wither in to old men and become as children again. To God we all must return. God Bless my Brother Ben, to You he has returned.

My big brother was always there for me. In my darkest hour, I could call Ben. I told him that we all love him, even in death. May Jehovah bless us all to be strong. He is not suffering anymore.
